Hi all.
I'm trying to get mplayer under debian, but it tells me that it doesn't
have a binary or source package available.
Could someone point me to the best spot to get mplayer from?
Also, does mplayer (or some other program) play .avi files?

Go to their web site at

http://wwwmplayerhq.hu

and download the tarball with the source code. In that tarball you
will find all files that are necessary for building a Debian package.

Hope it helps,

Sergey.

You can get mplayer sources from http://www.mplayerhq.hu. you also
probably want to get the win32codec packages. see the mplayer docs for
more info on that.

I would rather spend 10 hours reading someone else's source code than
10 minutes listening to Musak waiting for technical support which isn't.

Add this lines to your sources.list:

# mplayer

deb http://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat/ sarge main
deb http://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat/ sid main

Hi all.

I wanted to install mplayer under debian testing, but I only found
virtual packages, such as mplayer-nogui for example. The only real
mplayer packages I found seem to be plugins.

Can any debianites who have mplayer installed on their system please
provide some clues on what I need to do to get a mplayer package, that
is compiled for console, rather then for x use? Thanks in advance.

Greg
