Hi
I think I have mentioned this a couple of times before. I still get unresolved
symbols with the softsynth module and Speakup. This is with latest speakup
CVS. Here is the output.
Speakup v-2.00 CVS: Sun Aug 29 23:46:14 EDT 2004 : initialized
Speakup: loading module "speakup_sftsyn"
speakup_sftsyn: Unknown symbol synth_buff_in
speakup_sftsyn: Unknown symbol synth_add
speakup_sftsyn: Unknown symbol synth
speakup_sftsyn: Unknown symbol synth_buff_out
speakup_sftsyn: Unknown symbol synth_release
speakup_sftsyn: Unknown symbol do_synth_init
speakup_sftsyn: Unknown symbol synth_write
speakup_sftsyn: Unknown symbol synth_alive
speakup_sftsyn: Unknown symbol synth_remove
speakup_sftsyn: Unknown symbol synth_done
initialized device: /dev/synth, node ( MAJOR 10, MINOR 25 )
The softsynth module is my default Speakup module. All the speakup code is
compiled as modules.

Ok, after playing around a little more, turns out that this seems to happen
only when sftsyn is the default speakup module stated at compile time. What I
had to do, was specify no module at kernel compile time, and load the main
speakup module. Then echoed sftsyn to /proc/speakup/synth_name, and loaded
speech-dispatcher and speechd_up, and all worked well.
Hope this helps anybody who has had the same problem I have.

No, that's not true. Speakup works with the Doubletalk,
Litetalk, Braille 'N Speak, the DDectalk, and others. You
should go to Speakup's main site, http://linux-speakup.org.

Hi all,
I just ran upon a site that states that speakup only works with the
double-talk internal card, is this true? I thought not as I have seen
posts here regarding dec-talk as well.
Thanks,
Karen

thanks, I knew this was wrong, but such a bold statement on this site that
lists other speech alternatives seemed so odd.
Speaking of alternatives, is there a driver for the synthesizer abilities
bu built into the reading edge?

Hi their. I believe that the Reading Edge has the old Dectalk installed
in it. Circa 1980 or so. This being said, you should be able to use the
same drivers that the old dectalk uses, after configuring your Reading
Edge to be an external synth.

Hi,
Actually as the software was updated, I believe we were up dec talk4, if
that means anything but I can check which is the last dec system. The
last software was post dec-talk express, but this does not mean they also
updated the dec structure being used. The arctic screen readers,
business vision and wind-vision can use the reading edge as an external
synth so i can check this as well.
Thanks, at least more than one option to try once i reach that stage.

Why that's a bunch of nonsense. The speakup site, www.linux-speakup.org lists
the synths it works with.
