A while ago, there was some talk here on the list about the system
speaker being disabled by default. My problem is that I don't remember
if this was a 2.6.xx kernel or a Fedora issue.

Can someone let me know all the goods on this one, especially how to
turn the system speaker back on by default?

TIA

Hi. Recompile the kernel and in the "make config" step
answer "y" to Misc (INPUT_MISC) support and PC Speaker
Support.

Hi Steve. This isn't a kernel issue actually Fedora's default kernel is
modularized, so by default, the PC Speaker is not enabeled. Why the
Fedora Core Team decided to do this, I have no idea. But see my previous
message on hos to minigate this problem.

Yes, this happens in the 2.6 kernel if the pc speaker input is compiled as a
module. To fix it, execute:

modprobe pcspkr

To enable it by default, just load that at startup.

Its a 2.6.x kernel thing. Go into the menuconfig, and there should be an option to turn it back on. Under misc input devices I think.

No, this is a 2.6 kernel issue. You need to enable it in the
miscellaneous section of the input section, if I recall correctly.
