I am wondering how can I get Speakup to talk faster it is too slow. Just
in case I am using kernel 2.4.22 with Speakup built in.

It is a bit different for different synthesizers, but you "echo" values
to /proc/speakup/rate. For example for my doubletalk I use the
following.
echo 9 >/proc/speakup/rate
That gives me the fastest speed for the doubletalk, but other synths
have different ranges of speeds, if you try to put incorect values in
there I think it will give you an informative error message. Make sure
not to for get the greater than symbol.

Hi Scott-and-All: You should at least be able to on the fly change the rate
with I think insert 5 and insert 6. Sure setting it in the options will insure
that it will start in your favorite way.

just cat /proc/speakup/rate, look at that number, then echo n
>/proc/speakup/rate where n is a number greater then the one already
there. do it in one number increments so you can find a good setting.
