Hi all. I did a find for named.conf, and am a bit confused as to which
file I should use for actual configuration. There is no /etc/named.conf,
as all the docs suggest. Instead the following exists:

Which one should I use? There's also one in
/usr/local/bind-9.2.3rc4/bin/tests, and the comments in this file suggest
that it can't be used. Is it normal to have this many coppies of
named.conf? Have I done something wrong while configuring/compiling?

I don't think I can use Webmin because I still haven't got Apache to
compile yet. I think I'm going to have to upgrade my Glibc, since it seems
that pthread.h is related to Glibc. /usr/local/include/pthread.h that is.

FYI webmin doesn't need apache to work, it runs its own miniserv.pl
server on port 10000 to work.

This sounds very interesting. I'm finding web based application
programming to be rather fascenating so the idea of a "mini server"
interests me indeed. Is this miniserv.pl an indipendently available
deal or is that exclusively a part of webmin? Webmin isn't distro
specific, is it?

I don't believe the server is available as a separate package, but
webmin is gpl'd so you can play with the server part if you wish. No
webmin is not distro specific, I have used it on Slackware and Debian
and I know some people in my LUG are using it on Redhat and Fedora. It
is tailored to each distro so that instead of linking all your configs
to some non-standard location Webmin will edit them in their default
location. If you've ever used swat to configure samba that is what
webmin most reminds me of.

Hi all. I just compiled/installed Bind-9.2.3. However, the file

/usr/local/binddir/bin/tests. Upon further reading of the file there is a
comment that says that this configuraiton file is unusable. Should I just
comment out the unused parameters in this file? Or the install scripts

use the webmin module to configure bind. It's really easy. this is how
I set it up here. if you like I can tar up my named configs and send
them over.
