Any thoughts on converting text to mp3? I was thinking of making an mp3 of
a bookshare file and playing in on a portable mp3 player. I have some
preliminary ideas but am interested in the speakup listers speaking out on
this subject.

Hi:
I know you can get festival to dump to a wav file, which you could then
encode to whatever format you like. Though of course this will require a
bit of disk space to do. Don't know if festival can send its wav to
standard out, in which case you could go direct to MP3.
Geoff.

Don't know if you have the dectalk software synth but it has a
-fo option for out putting a file to wav and it does a really
nice
job if it.
Hope this helps.
