I seem to recall that they removed Pine from fedora for some
reason. Can't tell you why. I use Mutt and like it a bunch. Give
it a try.

What you need to do is go up onto the redhat or Redora website and get the
RPM for Pine and then install it.
#su
$ rpm -i package name.

pine is ok, but it's not opensource and lacks built-in pgp support.

Use mutt.. If you get it configured properly, you'll not miss pine at
all.
Pine can be gotten. It just doesn't ship with Fedora because it has a
broken license.

there's a good example at www.dotfiles.com. also take a look at your
system-wide Muttrc usually located in /etc.

just because you can get the sourcecode doesn't always mean it's
opensource.

Actually, the term you're looking for is free software, not open
source. Yes, there's a difference.

ok, can someone clarify all this?
If I use an E mail application in gnome I only have to configure one
program. However if I use mutt I have to configure mut, fetchmail and
sendmail. Is this right? If so can someone give me any suggestions on the
easiest quickest and most reliable method of configuring these?
Thanks

well you don't need fetchmail..at least I think you don't. mut can
fetch from pop3 and imap servers.
but you do need sendmail.
pine is the opisite. you don't need sendmail but you need fetchmail.
now most distros come with sendmail or exim pre-configured so you
shouldnt have to do that much work.

Well, you don't have to use sendmail by any means. Exim is easier to
configure and has some spam-fighting capabilities. While you're at it,
check out qmail which is also a very good mta.
