Not enough info.
Typing:
lynx google
Gets me the standard page, from which I can do a "/_", to get where I need
to go.
That is the same as:
lynx http://google.com/
Or:
lynx http://www.google.com/
So what are you typing?

Well that was painful.
I will speculate wildly: could your MIME types be screwed up?
Next: if you save that gif, and send it to a sightie, what do they tell
you they see?
No idea.

I have brought the problem to the attention of:
Doug Kaufman <dkaufman@RAHUL.NET>
Who I believe is some sort of lynx developer.

Hi:
That's *soooo* weird. Have you tried using another browser to go to the
site? This might shed some light on the situation. Also, are you using a
web proxy of any sort?
Geoff.

You actually don't even need the slash on the end as far as I can tell.
Did you maybe accidentally hit the "happy halloween" link yesterday; on
holidays they have a link like that at the top and i don't know if that
would give you an image or not?
I just arrow down to the text field and enter my search and hit enter on
the search link.
Of course, in links the chain, you are put right on the text entry field.

I don't even get a chance to see the bloody page.
it's beginningto piss me off that I either have to use the chain or

What is the "m" for before the google url?
You know, there's what seems to me to be a simpler way to do this.
I enabled jumpfiles in lynx the cat, which you can read about in the
documentation.
I type lynx and when i get the starter page I type j and "search" and end
up at google. Or you can bookmark google and access it that way.
Seems like more work to do a script for this and it looks to me like
something may be wrong with your script anyway.
And again, when I do access google by using the url, I've never had to add
the slash at the end so I think that isn't essential in any case.

Hmm, that's interesting.
I just typed 'lynx google" as is in your script at the top and even that
gets me to google with no problem and no request to download images.
Don't try that with links the chain though; it thinks you are looking up
something y=in your home directory and gives you an error.
It has to be something on your system rather than something with lynx the
cat, but I haven't the foggiest notion of what, so I'll keep my mouth shut
from here on out and maybe nobody will notice my ignorance!--lol!

Why does the reply-to line now say:
"speakup is a screen-review system for linux."?
Most reply-to lines I've ever seen just have the email address not other
phrases. It did catch my attention though; I'll grant you that.

I was wondering that myself. Sounds kind of awkward, but that's
probably because I'm used to seeing just the email address.

I've just upgraded the box that the speakup list runs on the newer
mailman seems to place the list description in the reply-to and the
to: fields. I am not sure why maybe they thought that was a good
ideea. Anyway, I may still might have to make some tweaks along the

Just a note for those to whom it matters, pressing slash, underscore,
enter (/_), will get you to the text field more quickly than arrowing.

If it smooths your pain any, be aware that nobody else seems to be having
this problem, thus seeming to make it a non-google issue (that is: not an
access matter).

The "script" he is talking about, is the "script" command. Do a man for
script (man script).
It is not a script in the sense of a bash script, but is a script in the
sense of a transcript. That is: it records everything that happens on
screen.
The "m" you were talking about, has an up-arrow before it (turn on
punctuation when reading those kinds of things). A control M, or uparrow
M ("^m"), is the control character, or printable form, of a carrage
return.
Lynx will add the slash if you don't, when it rewrites the URL.
Also, no need for jumpfiles or bookmarks: doing "lynx google", will cause
lynx to rewrite the URL as "google", and when that fails: "http://google",
then: "http://google.com". That works, and the remote httpd server, has
it reform the URL via redirection, to "http://www.google.com". The web
server then, I believe (may have the order screwed up here), because
everything is a directory other than files, requires lynx to, which it
does, add a slash.

I've noticed that as well. It's somewhat annying, because it contains a
period, thus forsing quotes. Since I hear nearly all punctuation, I hear
them.

Well, it sounds to me like something happened when you installed lynx-ssl.
but it isn't a lynx issue either, because I (and probably most of us) have
been using lynx-ssl with no problem.

Hmmm, hope you're not using that openssl installation for anything vaguely
critical?! It's recommended to upgrade to at least H for security
reasons.
Cheers.

Well, this is kind of interesting.
I am using debian unstable.
when I check package status for openssl, it says the version is 0.9.7c--5.
But when I do
lynx --version
it says
Lynx Version 2.8.4rel.1 (17 Jul 2001)
libwww-FM 2.14, SSL-MM 1.4.1, OpenSSL 0.9.6c
Built on linux-gnu Nov 22 2002 21:54:44
so I assume the lynx --version is talking about what version it was built
on while the openssl package info is the ssl actually being used on my
system?
I wondered about this,
because when you run "o" options in lynx,
under "user agent header" it has openssl0.96c listed.
Not meaning to sound vague; not quite sure what I'm asking except is this
a discrepancy that could cause a problem or is it just the difference
between what was originally used in the build and what is current on the
system?

Yes, and of course because there hasn't been a production version of Lynx
since that one, the debian build won't have been updated in quite some
time and I suspec t that 0.9.6C was current at that time.

I don't think it would cause a problem, though if you're concerned you
could take a look at the openssl web site, but it stands to reason that
client-side implementations are not as problematic as server-side ones. I
was really just making the comment that you probably don't want to be
using such an old version of Openssl for your servers.
Cheers.

Just a thought, and I have no idea if it will help.
Why not try deleting all your google cookies from your cookie file and see
if that changes anything.
