hi,
I have here a doubletalk lt that's causing me a bit of grief.
speakup doesn't seem to be able to find it for some reason, yet I can't
seem to be able to echo a ctrl+a to the synth either.
am I doing something wrong? I've tryed using minicom and gkermit both to
no avail.
thanks in advance.

Hi Shaun.
You've probably already done this, but what happens when you try echoing a
string to the serial port with the doubletalk lot turned on?
echo hello > /dev/ttyS0
or whatever your serial port is.
If that doesn't work, I'd say there are three possibilities:
1. something is wrong with your doubletalk.
2. Something is wrong with your serial port.
3. something is wrong with the cable from your doubletalk to your serial
port or you don't have it connected firmly.
Maybe there are other possibilities but these are what occur to me at the
moment.

well, echo "hello" >/dev/ttyS1 does exactly what I'd expect it to do.
the lt speaks the word hello.
why speakup failed to detect is it beyond me.
I've done a dmesg and speakup comes up fine byt the litetalk fails the
probe.
and echoing a ctrl_a with a question mark directly to the synth doesn't
yeald anything.
I'm probably doing that wrong in any case. lol.

Do you have your doubletalk lt compiled in to the kernel and do you have
it chosen as the default synth? also, if you put it in as the default when
compiling the kernel, I can't remember whether or not case matters.
If you are using speakup modularized I haven't done that yet, so can't
say anything.

Yes, Yes! This is my exact same problem with Speakout. It fails to probe
successfully. I never had this problem till this last Friday's version from
CVS. I mentioned it over the weekend but apparently noone else experiences
the problem or something. It does not initialize Accent synths anymore
either.

It appears that David broke a fair bit with his Friday check in. He
was trying to fix the 2.4.22 patching problems.
