I have telnetted to a bbs to sign on. But it is super slow. How can I
quit my telnet program?

Unix telnet, you can usually press control-right bracket, and type "quit",
followed by enter, at the "telnet>" prompt.
That is what that "escape character is ^]" bit is, when you start telnet.

If you are already connected, press Control+], then type close. If you have
received the message "Trying <ip>" but not the "Connected" message, simply
press Control+c.
