Last night I forgot to mention what version of Links I was using. I am currently using 0.99PRE2. Also, I just realize that this version doesn't seem to include javascript support at all. The only thing I see is --without-ssl to disable ssl. However, no mention of javascript nor in setup menu nor in configure script. So I take it they probably removed the support temporarily to debug it and then re-include it? May you code in the power of the source, may the kernel, libraries, and utilities be with you, throughout all distributions until the end of the epoch. ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 8+ messages in thread

There are configure options to select before compiling it, one for graphics, one for javascript, and one for ssl. HTH - Chuck On Sat, 29 Mar 2003, Igor Gueths wrote: > Hi all. I got into a couple sites I know of that require javascript and I never could get favorable results. I could find some of the controls but It just kept opening up the script or getting some kind of errors executing the script. Anyway, I gave up on it. Last time I played with it, I found that it only worked in cases where the JavaScript function in question was called as the "onclick" event for a button, or on sites where the JavaScript consisted of rundtion calls having urls as arguments. E. G. links having "JavaScript:OpenWindow("http://www.come-domain.com/some-file"). In these cases, my version of emacs-w3 can already grab the url from the function call and open a new buffer, with the content fetched and rendered. Maybe I'll play with links (the chain) some more, but I was disheartened last time. -Dave >>>>> "Steve" == Steve Holmes <steve@holmesgrown.com> writes: Steve> The last time I tried links 2.1pre7, I didn't have much Steve> success. I logged in but then I couldn't access all the buttons/links. Guess will have to wait until 3.0 comes out. * Re: testing links with javascript ` Steve Holmes ` Dave Hunt ` Igor Gueths @ ` Chuck Hallenbeck 2 siblings, 0 replies; 8+ messages in thread From: Chuck Hallenbeck @ UTC (permalink / raw) To: speakup I had better luck with 2.1pre8, and was able to handle some java sites okay. I just installed pre9 but have not had a chance to play with it yet. The thing navigates okay, but I still prefer Lynx The Cat except for the java thing. I guess if I forced myself to stick to Links The Chain for routine use it would become more comfortable, but in practice what I am doing is using The Cat until I run into a java site and then switching to The Chain to handle it.
