Hello.  Where could I find the file I need to edit the fetchmail program?

If you're looking to configure the fetchmail program, the file of
interest is "~/.fetchmailrc".  The fetchmail manual page gives
instructions on what goes into this file.  Any text editor will do.

On slackware /usr/local/doc/fetchmail-x.y/contrib/fetchsetup is available.
I doubt your path will match exactly, but fetchsetup can write you a file.

Fetchmail Configuration

I installed fetchmail and the fetchmailrc file seems simple enough except
that where to put the password isn't clear when looking at the example.  Can
someone please post a real live fetchmailrc that works?  I just want a
simple example that gets some e-mail from a provider and forwards it to a
local account.  Too me, it isn't that well documented or I am looking at the
wrong place.

I've atached my ~/.fetchmailrc. this grabs mail from my provider's 
server and forwards it to my local mailbox.

I can see how it polls your provider, but who does it send mail to on your
system?  In my case for instance, I want it to retrieve from
rejp@rogers.com and send it to rejean@interfree.ca

In this case there is only 1 user id so where does it send it too?

On the topic of fetch mail send mail and mutt, I'm not sure if I've asked
this before, but what files do I need to configure to get mutt sending and
recieving mail with sendmail and fetchmail?

Could someone send me an example of these files?

mut sends mail via sendmail by default and recieves mail through 
/var/spool/mail/user by default. so all you gotta configure is 
sendmail (good luck) and fetchmail.
btw if you have problems with sendmail you may want to look at exim, 
qmail, or courier. sendmail's configuration is really complex.

It sneds it to whatever user's mailbox that the fetchmail daemon is 
running as. so I run it as alex_snow and it dumps all mail in that 
user's mailbox.

run 2 daemons?

I am doing it a bit differently, I have a system wide fetchmail running
which fetches mail from all my accounts and could if I wanted put the
mail in various accounts on my system. The trick is to add to the end of
the user line (in your .fetchmailrc "there is <localuser> here" where
<localuser> is your user name. Getting the system wide fetchmail is a
little more difficult, but putting the above in your ~/.fetchmailrc
should put the mail in the right place. I know its long and boring, but
you should consider reading the fetchmail man page. Remember that when
it comes to R'ing TFM the search command is your friend. Good luck.
