Hi All,
I'm trying to configure unreal ircd, but It's complaining that my
cloak::keys are to easy to gess. I don't know why it's complaining, the
numbers are pretty ramdom. Does anyone know why it's continuing to piss me
off?

Still doesn't like those number/letter conbinations. I hate when apps do
things like this. If you get hacked or something because the number isn't
random enough, that's your problem.

Ok got it to work. My numbers weren't long enough. Now there's only one
problem. It says that the directive set::ssl is invalid. But when I
comment out the whole ssl section it seems to be happy, but I have no ssl
support.

ok, remove the ssl directives from the unrealircd.conf altogether
especially if you don't need them.
anything you don't need, remove it.
and also another good thing to do is have configurations like o-lines,
server links, etc in different config files and have them included in
the main config file with an include statemant.

if you run the numbers in sequence or some silly thing like 1234567 or
something to that effect, it will complain.
I've played with unreal ircd here as I'm an ircoperator on the angeleyez
irc network.
irc.angeleyez.net
what I ended up doing was using a combination of numbers that consisted
of each number at least once somewhere. but I think you can only have
values in the thousands range.

I got unreal irc setup, and just installed a services package (magic irc

Hi Alex. I know that at least with Epona, the services like Chanserv
Nickserv etc login as their own nick. To interact with them you just /msg
nickserv for example. I don't know how Magic Irc operates per-say, but I
would imagine that its a similar setup.

I wonder why it thinks you're connecting using local loopback addr? Was
that your connection from localhost to localhost?

Assuming you have your c/n lines configured correctly,
you might want to look in the aliases directory to see if there's an
alias file relating to your services daemon. If not, try sourcing the
gneric aliases file with an include statement in the unrealircd.conf
file.
btw, edd, I'm interested to know what this module you're coding for
unreal is all about,
I'm a global operator on the angeleyez irc network and I think it may
well come in handy from time to time.

Hi Shaun. Esentially what the module is going to do is allow opers to
listen to privmsgs, assuming the user types /msg nick not /msg =nick. The
message will then be printed to the screen, and if you have a log turned
on in IrcII, it will be logged just like other channel conversation. I'm
pretty sure I can do this by using SendTo_real_opers for operator-only
sending. I've got some ideas on how to do thisbut haven't actually tried
anything out yet, bc of a lack of time. I'm going to see if I can plug
away at this some time today.

Hello,
I've played with unreal IRCD quite a bit, infact, that's what runs my
IRC server ATM.
If you want SSL support, make sure you downloaded a copy that can
support it.
In many cases, programmers don't have time to include configuration
files for each flavor of a program they release.
I believe you can specify if you want SSL support during the configure
process.
Also, make sure that you went through the certificate creation at the
end of configure.
If you didn't compile SSL support in, it will complain about theat
piticular block of directives.
In which case, the best thing you can do is remove that block.
Also, pay close attention to the configuration files comments, as they
provide very valuable information about what needs to be changed.
and if you still have cloak keys with letters, remove them, as to my
knowledge, letters are not allowed in cloak keys.
If you need any more assistance, feel free to email me personally, or
visit me on my IRC server at irc.the-bofh.com, nickname BOFH.
hope this helps you.
Jim

Hi there Shaun. I don't have Unrealircd up and running,
in fact Ihaven't built it. My relationship with the ircd
for now is pretty much code-based. Alex Snow has it up
and running, and he is going to let me test on his
Unreal. That will be good bc I will be able to test how
it behaves in diffferent configs. I'll let you nkow when
its stable enough to test on a different machine besides
mine. Hey Shaun do you get on the reflector much? I am
usually on there at some point or another.

Yeah my server is up most of the time, bbs1.dyndns.org:6667.
Explorer has caused a general protection fault in module kernel32.dll. I'm
sick of Winblows!
