Hi
I do not know how good it is but asap demo version will work on a boot
floppy.. freeware, jaws for dos was made freeware a few years ago..
I do not know if it is small enough to get on a floppy, because for me,
asap was the most excellent screen reader and portible program out there..

doubt if there is. I wanted freedom to release the source for jaws for
dos.

Hello David,
A few years ago there was a neat little dos screen program called Tiny
Talk. I can't remember the gentleman's name who created it and it could
do almost anything the big guys did. It came as a base unit and the user
could configure it to do most anything.
If anyone is interested, I could dig around in my floppy collection and
see if I still have a copy and from it find some contact information.

written by Eric Bowman; haven't heard anything from him in quite a long

There is protalk it is opensource and
on Chuck Hallenbec's homepage.
Not as nice as asap in my opinion but it works
well and performs as advertized.

Ummm I don't know about open source, but you might like to look for
something like tinytalk if you want to use your sound blaster card, or of
course jaws have released their dos screen reader as free software, but if
you want it for a boot disk, it's probably not going to work for you as it
needs about 2 or 3 mb to install. Maybe a dos boot CD???

Hi.
Does tinitalk support a sb16 card?
I was able to hack jaws down to about 400k, ssmall enough to fit on a disk.
This was done mainly by getting rid of the docs.
Explorer has caused a general protection fault in module kernel32.dll. I'm
sick of Winblows!

JAWS for DOS is *NOT* free. This is an important distinction. JAWS for
DOS can be downloaded at no cost...but it is *NOT* free. While not all
open source software is free....all free software is open source. For
software to be free, one must have the four freedoms...ah heck....just
visit www.gnu.org, read, and digest the free software philosophy
materials.
