Is there any reason that the speakfreely reflector wouldn't work with the
win version of speakfreely? I would love to be able to run this box with
linux, but I lost my fast network and it has a sh**y winmodem. Thanks.

Thanks, but I have the client from there and I have tried replacing the
executable with the one on linux-speakup.org and still have no luck, I can
hear myself on echo servers and can talk directly to other people using
speakfreely, I even see myself on the
http://lwl.braille.uwo.ca/speakup.html page, but I get no sound and no
evidence of being on the reflector.

Hi. Are you or your isp blocking port 4074? This is the default port that
Speak Freely uses to transmit and receive audio packets. Unfortunately, I
don't know of a way to change the default port in the Winblows version of
Speakfreely.

Gates go to hell, your OS is waiting for you there!

Hi,

I was able to get a winmodem working with Linux thanks to some drivers
some generous people wrote. You might want to check out the
winmodem/"linmodem" howto at

http://walbran.org/sean/linux/linmodem-howto-1.html

Let me know if I can provide any more help.

Liz

Wrong! Wrong! Wrong! This is the sort of missinformation that gets people
into deep shit and they wonder why they fuck things up!
the default port that the reflector uses is 4074 but speak_freely uses
port 2074 by default.

That's just the same as linux just append the colen with 4074 at the end
of the address like this.
lwl.braille.uwo.ca:4074
igor for christ's sakes get it right before you go aering you're supposed
knowledge.
also speak_freely uses udp data packets so what you need to do if you're
behind a firewall is enable udp data packets to be allowed to travel
backwards and forwards on ports 2074-2076, and ports 4074-4076.

Hi all. Still trying to get Debian working on my girlfriend's box. I have been
able to install the packages and everything, however the problem comes when
configuring ppp. She apparently has a Lucent LT winmodem. I read the Linux and
Winmodem howto, and I found a driver that supposedly works. I got it as a
Debian package, and installed it. It created /dev/LT0 which I presume is the
device name by which it can be referenced. /dev/modem was also symbolically
linked to /dev/LT0. When I try running pon, it complains about /unrecognized
option "/dev/LT0)." It doesn't find the modem on anyone of the serial ports.
Has anyone successfully configured ppp to work with this modem and the driver?
I got the link to it from www.linmodems.org. Is there a module called ltmodem
or something in /lib/modules/kernelversion that I don't know about? I don't
have Speakup installed on this box so she is reading the screen to me for the
time being. I was just curious if whether or not someone has gotten this modem
to work and the steps they took? Thanks!
