 Geoff asked if there is some way to do the fdisk /mbr trick from
Linux, and I have thought a lot about that. Someone else
commented that there seems to be a lot of DOS/Windows advice on
the list on this question of unloading linux... For what it is
worth:

Linux users generally are not much interested in unloading linux.
They are usually interested in unloading DOS/Windows, and the
lilo command plus the linux fdisk are the way to do that. I do
not believe there is a hell of a lot of interest in a linux
command to unload linux! <smile>
