* Links in pine messages?

If I view a message in pine and it has links such as
http://www.mypage.com, I can hit enter and I get asked if I want to view
the link. I answer yes and all is fine. But if the link points to an
exact file such as http://www.mypage.com/~user/file1.tar.gz, I go through
the same procedure and the contents of the file get dumpped to my screen
and I can't see any way to capture the binary form and save it. I can't
for example, "download" the link from within pine like one does in lynx.
I am vaguely aware of mime.types and such but probably don't have a real
good handle on it. Even if I did, I'm not sure what pine should use to
download the file instead of having lynx come up unconditionally and
display it as if it were text.
Any ideas?

Hi Steve:
This is one of lyn'x more annoying traits. The best thing I can think of,
which I'd not thought of before so I thank you for asking and making me
think about it, is to select "edit app" from the view URL menu and put in
wget instead of lynx for such URLs. That should do the job. You'll of
course need wget installed.
Geoff.

Are you speaking of Pine or Lynx? At this point, I don't know where the
"edit app" option is.

This is in pine. When you click on a URL, you get the four optins:
Y Yes, U Edit URL, N No, A edit App
can't recall if this is something that needs to be enabled in config or
not, but it's definitely there.
Geoff.

I typically never even bother with editing urls when I click on a link in
pine. However, have received messages with malformed links in them so guess
defining an editor would be useful.

Nonono, the app isn't what ;you edit the URL with, it's what you view the
URL with. If you want to edit the URL, pine just brings it up on a line
right there and you edit it that way.

I tried your suggestion of editing the application line in Pine and that
trick worked great!. Guess allong I thought there was only a "y" or "n"
answer; didn't realize you could change the app on the fly like that. I
do recall seeing an option to edit the URL but wget is the ticket with
links to complete files.
Thanks again for the help!
