Well,

The clocks changed this weekend, and I can't seem to find any way of
forcing my Linux box to take the change.  I mean, of course I can just
change the time, but the time zone will be rong, it'll be gmt instead of
bst.  I've searched all the man pages etc that I can think of, so I'd be
really grateful if someone could point me in the right direction.  I don't
even know if I'll make the change, I might, being a radio ham, leave the
box on GMT, but I recall when I installed the system that no option for
this eventualilty seemed to exist, and the lack of it is really eating me,
not least because Winblows gives you the option to do this or not, and I
don't believe it's not there in LInux somewhere.

As experiments have shown, Linux handles daylight savings if left on
during the change if not set to UTC to begin with.  Otherwise, if you tell
it that your hardware clock is set to UTC, and it really is, it handles it
by simply converting from the UTC to the selected time zone on the fly.
Every document I have ever read on the subject says that if you run
Linux only, you should set your clock to UTC and then select your local
time zone.  If you run Linux with DOS or Windows, you say no to the
question about the hardware clock set to UTC and either leave the computer
in Linux when the transition occurs so it can adjust the clock, or start
it in the other OS after the change and let it handle it.  I don't know,
however, how it handles GMT.  I don't know if it treats it like UTC or
not.

Hmmm, interesting, is it possible that if you set it to GMT, which is the
one I wanted, that this does not happen?

Hehehe, well I sorted it, finally found all the tz commands, tzselect,
while not resetting the system clock, asked a few questions and gave the
line to be added to start-up scripts.  Good old Speakup, just cut and
pasted it into /etc/zprofile.

It would appear that when setting up, Slackware gives an extra option for
GMT, which I used.  Still, it's a good way to learn.

Btw, good to see the list back, I was getting withdrawal symptoms. *grin*

Hi, I believe Linux will  work with  dlt. If you need to reset the time 
you can 
do it really easy thhrough linuxconf if you have it installed.
