Hi, for bz files use a program called bunzip and for bz2 use bunzip2.
To extract the alsa drivers do this.
bunzip2 alsa-version.tar.bz2
tar -xf alsa-version.tar

The tar program knows how to uncompress bz2 files. It will automatically
call on the bzip2 program if you use the letter 'y' in place of the 'z'
when you use the tar program, like so:
tar xyvf archive.tar.bz2
HTH -

"bunzip2" filename.
if it is a .tar.bz2 file, then envoke tar like this:
"tar yxpf " filename.

hi shaun and all,
i was able to compile version 0.9.0beta7 of the alsa drivers
but i get a module error when i load the snd-card-sb16.o module
step 1. i compiled sound in my kernel, soundcore.
step 2. i run configure with debug=detect
step 3. i do a make install
i also configure and make install the other two directories
step 4. try to install the modules with modprobe
i get that error with the sb16 module
i have fchecked several times to make sure things are loaded and
configured for sound
i am able to load up the sb.o module that comes with linux and it works
fine,
but the snd-card-sb16 will not load for some reason.
thanks in advance
randy

did you run the snddevices shell script that comes with the alsa
drivers? it's in the alsa-driver-0.9.0beta7 directory.
also another thing you might want to look at is the isapnp side of
things. I don't know much about isapnp under linux cause I got to
frustrated with it for other reasons.

hi,
this soundblaster is not a pnp
but i did run snddevices
also when i was running 7.1 it all worked fine
this appears to have something to do with the 8.0 slackware upgrade,
the alsa-driver-0.9.0beta7 compiles
with a lot of strange warnings but it compiles.
when i try to load snd-card-sb16 it can't load it.
thanks in advance
randy
