I think it was this list that wanted micq:

Sorry Ann, but the page you found on google doesn't seem to exist
anymore. (It happens to the best of them...) That's the one downside
to Google--there is link rot a-plenty. However, down a bit further on
the google search results, you will find
http://micq.ukeer.de/

This one definitely works, and it looks like micq-0.4.7 is out.

ICQ 2000b now uses port 5190 TCP
and a new protocol. the old UDP 4000 stuf in
icq 98 and icq99 and most clones is not supported on the
miribilis servers anymore which stops micq from working well.
People are re-implementing icp7 (the new protocol) but it takes time.

Regards, Kerry.

Hi Randy,
Yes, Mirabilis is the culprit. They have upgraded their protocol and have
introduced incompatibilities with all earlier software. Windows users are
expected to upgrade to ICQ2000, but Linux users are out of luck until the
developers can figure out the new protocol and upgrade the several client
programs. There are four Linux ICQ packages I know about, and from their
mailing lists, all but one is having the same problem. The one that has
already implemented the new protocol unfortunately is a GUI package only,
so it does not help speech users.

Mirabilis says there are no Linux clients for ICQ, and Windows users can
upgrade free, so - case closed!

Chuck

hi chuck,

well it helps to know that,
i was trying everything to get it to work.
it sounds like a good group of people have taken over the micq project,
so maybe they can figure it out.
sure hope so!
i am glad that all of us can pull together in a few of these groups
and help each other with all of this.
i plan to upgrade my linux soon to the 8.0 version of slackware,
i have enjoyed running the version of 7.1
thanks to all i feel this is a greate group

i am also having problems sending out messages with micq
i have had this problem for about a month now.
when the system is working i can send test messages to my icq number,
i have also upgraded to version 0.4.7
some of this might just be the icq server because i have a friend in
windows who is also having icq problems.
thanks to all,
randy

Centericq can be had at
http://konst.org.ua

Else I can send it to you.

It's a little bit weird to use at first, and the display is a little
bit non-intuitive. Thre's a window down the left side with status and
usernames of people on your contact list; you can msg them by finding
their name on the list with the arrow keys. The window to the right of
that has your messages in it, and below that is a status box. It's
easy enough to get used to and it actually works very well.

Where can one find centericq? Source is fine. I hear several people prefer
this one.

I have a compiled version of micq version 0.4.6 or something like that if
anyone wants.

also it's freinedly to speakup users all though I prefere centericq to
micq.

Hi all,

Yes, Steve, it is a Linux version of ICQ, and it is compatible with
ICQ for Windows. Yes, it works well, either as part of Emacs,
(consult Matt Campbell on how to enable it for speech), or with
Speakup. I'm using it with speakup right now because it doesn't need
any additional coding if you use it with speakup. It works very well
indeed.

Briefly, yes, yes, and yes. It's a linux icq, it works OK, and Speakup
gets along with it fine. It doesn't support things like file transfer,
but centericq does. Centericq works OK too, but it takes a bit of
getting used to how it's laid out.
