I know this question is strange ...  but, what is /usr/lib/crt1.o for and what does it do? Thanks.

Hi Greg: crt1.o is the "c runt time object" which gets prepended to
your files when you compile them so they can run when you type their
names if you have the permissions set correctly.

Well, I looked to see if I had it, then checked what debian package it's
in:

dpkg -S /usr/lib/crt1.o

Seems it's in libc6-dev.  Must have something to do with screen display
stuff in libc6 is my guess, and you must need it to compile stuff.
