Rawrite question

Rawrite question

Hey listers,
I inadvertanly sent this to the list moderator instead. I changed my email
address settings so hopefully this won't be a repeat message. I was no mail
for a bit. I ended up having to resubscribe under a new email
address because my ISP apparently shut down my shell account.
Here's my question. I have a copy of RedHat6.1, not SpeakUp ready. I got the
disk images I need from the SpeakUp download pages to try to run it in a
new, blank hard drive partition. So far so good.
When I run rawrite and it asks for the location of the source file, it stops
running and tells me there is no such file or folder.
The rawrite documentation doesn't expound on the error or the syntax to use.
I've tried each of the following and get the same result:
c:\dtlkb.bin
c:/dtlk.bin
c:dtlkb.bin
dtlkb.bin
I have both rawrite and the dtlk.bin file on the main c: drive, no folders
to complicat the filepaths.
Am I doing something wrong? Is there a better way to get the image on the
floppy? Need more info from me? Let me know.

Hi Keith,

I've had strange behaviour from different rawrite versions.  Version 1.3
seams to work for me.

Try typing it all on the command line:

c:\> rawrite13 dtlkb.bin a:

If that still doesn't work, re-aquire rawrite and dtlkb.bin and check that
the file attributes only have the archive bit set.

I'm still messing with trying to get this to work.  I checked the version
and it is rawrite 1.3

I tried doingit all at the command line and got a different error. Don't
remember what it was but rawrite wouldn't work anymore after that.  I'll try
what you said and re acquire it.

I got rawrite right from the RedHat CD ROM. I'll try it again, unless you
know of another source to download it from.

The archive bit was the only thing set.

I'd try a different version of RedHat, or even a different distro of Linux
but I already have these CD's in hand and it beats trying a monster download
on a slow conection.  If worse comes to worse, I could have my son read the
setup screens to set it up.  I'd rather have it speak to me so I can do it
myself though.

I'll keep plugging away at it.

Hi, you must use specialswitches with the Red Hat version of rawrite.

-f is for file name
-d is for output destination
-h is for help.

Concidder this command.

rawrite -f filename.bin -d a:

Hi

You may need to turn your screen reader off to write your disks
successfully if you're using MS Windows.  I'd advise that you use
Rawwrite for Windows, therre's a copy in the Speakup goodies directory.
Hopefully I've got the url right:

There is a newer version on the net if you wish to search for it.

I would suggest that you download and try winwrite. I have had (and head
of) far fewer problems from this program. I am not sure where you get it
from but a search of your favorite download site will probably yeild
something.

Hi, the Red Hat rawrite programs is different from rawrite programs.

Here is an example of a rawrite command
We will say that rawrite is installed on your cd drom on drive d: in the 
dosutils folder, and the file you are writing the image from is on c:.

d:\dosutils\rawrite -f c:\dtalk.bin -d a:

Naturally, substatute the paths where the rawrite program and the file you 
are writing to floppy are.
