Hey everyone, I don't know where to ask this question this morning but I
need to know how to log information displayed on the consol to a disk
file. What I am thinking about is something I used to do back in the old
days of modems and programs in DOS like procomm and Telix. Can boot
messages be logged as well?
Thanks in advance,
Doug

Hi Doug -
Look into the 'script' command ("man script") It might be just what you
are looking for.

Hello Chuck, Thanks for letting me know about the "script" command. I wish
I new about this one when I was in university 10 years ago. Could have
made good use of it on a DEC ultrix box. Now if I could figure out how to
log boot-up messages that would be wonderful.

Doug
There already logged for you. Just type 'dmesg' and pipe it to your
favorite pager. Personally I think less is more.

Someone's already covered this, no doubt, but you can see all your
bootup messages with
dmesg | more
You don't have to do anything, it's already done for you.

Hi Doug,
I don't know about the answer to your console question.
However, you can log output from boot messages into a file
called filename like so:
"dmesg >filename".
Hope this helps.
