Hi guys.
I've tryed everything I can think of with refference to my ethernet problem.
I for what ever reason can not detect my card.
I'm using slackware on a 486 and an intel ethernet card. as u know, there ain't too many 486's with pci slots or else I'd consider another card.
has anyone else ever had these troubles?
Thanks in advance Shaun..

I haven't had that trouble, but the best card for your situation is a
3com. I have an ISA 3Com Etherlink 3 here. If you want it, I will mail it
to you on agreement you mail $5 this direction. Contact me off list to
complete the deal. You may be able to find these cards elsewhere. They
used to be pretty much the corperate standard.

I'm testing because mail to this list is returning to me unsent with errors. First the 4 hour error, then the 5 day error.

Have you enabled the card in /etc/rc.d/rc.modules? This file is run upon boot up and it comes by default with module support for most cards. In case it
does not work you can make your own line in rc.modules and the module will load automatically when you boot.
I know you can also add it to /etc/rc.d/rc.local but with slack if you put it in rc.modules you keep the slack structure. *smile*.

I haven't had any problems like this with my 486's. I have had good luck
with Acerlan and 3com509C cards. I bought the 3Com 509C card about five
months ago from a local shop here. I think it was used at the time but I
got the dos drivers for it off 3com's website. The DOS configurator
program was a bit tricky to use to set the card's options but other than
that, Linux boots fine with it.

Hmmm... Seems to me like it is probably a isapnp card. Try run pnpdump
and see if the output shows you your card. Then set up the
/etc/isapnp.conf to reflect the setting you want and then the next time
you boot you should be able to insmod the module.

ok frank. The only way I can find any isapnp card, is if I configure
isapnp.conf to identify the card.
