I have not seen this, but my wife has received several pieces of email
urging everyone to complain about a proposed regulation that would charge
everyone five cents apiece for an eamil message. I insisted that it was a
spam, but after all, we are now living in a brave new world, so I thought
I would ask if anyone else has any information about this.
While I am off the same topic, I recently received the following as an
attachment called "virus.doc" in MS Word format:
You have just received the Amish virus..........
Since we have no electricity or computers, you are on the honor system.
Please delete all of the files on your hard drive.
Then forward this message to everyone in your address book.
Thank thee

Fortunately this virus has a serious bug 'cos it first asks to dele
all files and after that ask to send itself to all addressess in
just-deleted addressbook:>
except if that virus.doc is contains undelete macro.

how can I delete all of the files on my hard drive and then forward the
message? I guess I'd have to shuffle my infected addressbook over to
another unsuspecting pc and then send the message. on the postal
scheme, it's flatly not gonna happen according to the postal service
themselves.
I guess april first is upon us.

The post office thing is the most amazing thing. It is the first piece of
spam to generate legislation. Yes, legislation has been passed in regards
to this. Said legislation specifically says that no federal taxes or fees
will be placed in email. The thing has been floating arround for years. I
think I first saw it in 95. This just proves you can not stop stupid
rumors.

Charles:
This scare has been part of the Internet since before it was the Internet.
Truly--it goes back to the days of Compuserve, BIX, Delphi, and the Source
(which is what AOL was before it was AOL). It may be the prize winner for
longevity. And, yes, it as as bogus today as ever/.
It often surprises me how people suspend their good sense when they get
online. Do you really believe that Congress and the new Administration are
discussing hidden taxes today--when the media is chock full of stories of
mega-tax cuts? Wrong message.
