What version of Speakup is current? Is it 0.09 still?
I'm quite new to this part of linux so haven't braved enough to get into CVS
yet. My next step will probably be to get up to latest version of the
production 2.2X kernel and apply the regular speakup patch.

Hi:
The latest stable release of speakup is 0.09B. If you aren't using kernel
2.4.0testxx then this version is the same as version 0.09A. Both are
better than plain 0.09, though I'd suspect all the boot disks and so-forth
would have 0.09A or B in them, rather than just 0.09.

Interesting question: (possible feature) Is there any way to verify the
version of Speakup that is currently running? The only thing I'm currently
aware of is hearing the version number that is spoken while the system is
booting.

The following will repeat the initial version message.
Note the capital S in Speakup.
dmesg | grep Speakup
Perhaps in the near future you might be able to hear it with a command
similar to the following:
cat /proc/speakup/version
(hint, hint, nudge, nudge)

Hi. You can look at the dmesg messages. Pipe dmesg through more like
this:
dmesg | more
You'll hear the Speakup version number in the first few lines. Dmesg is
a great way to review kernel startup messages.

I looked at the boot disk images yesterday and they are all dated prior to
7/1/2000; I don't remember if they were May or June but I noticed the
speakup tar balls are dated mid July. The boot disk image for speakout I
got just about a month ago boots with 0.09
So acording to all that, the boot disk images are not current with the
general speakup distribution.
