Hello all,
I'm trying to install Redhat Linux version 6.1 on my pc.
I can't get my braille lite to work with speakup.
I have my braille lite set to 9600 baud, a stop bit, 8 data bits, no
parity, and software handshaking.
I downloaded the bnsb.bin file from the speakup ftp site, extracted it
with rawrite, and tried rebooting my computer.
The floppy accessed for a few seconds, I assumed I had a "Boot:" prompt on
my screen, so I pressed enter.
The floppy accessed for a while longer, my braille lite made a pop sound
as if something had been sent to it to speak, but none of the speakup
reading keys seemed to produce any speech.
Any help that can be offered would be appriciated. Thanks
Jim

Hopefully someone will correct me, but I am sure I remember seing that you
must set hardware flow control with your Braille Lite, or the Braille N
Speak. I have seen this fairly recently but didn't find it quickly in the
archives.

Hi James: Two things come to mind: first you should set your
braile-lite to hardware handshaking. Secondly you need to turn on
speech box mode with the chord-s command from the speech menu. Try
these and see if that helps.

You probably have to enter speech box mode for it to work. There's several
ways in the help file, I believe each does something a little different.

Hi,
I have encountered a simular problem. I even tried the hardware handshake
stuff, and never got it to work. Bad file? bad disk? don't know. I just know
that there are now two of us. Maybe someone can shed some light on this
topic. I know I would be greatful.
