Yes, these questions have probably been asked a thousand times here, but I
hope some kind soul will humor me. <grin>  After a year of malase, I
finally got around to getting a working microphone again, and thought I
would tune in to the reflector.  However, whilst executing `sflaunch
lwl.braille.uwo.ca:4074' using both oss-free and alsa drivers, and having
turned mic settings to the max, I still hear nothing and can't tell if I'm
transmitting.  Has anyone encountered this before?

Hi:

I tried sflaunch once, on someone else's machine.  It crashed the
machine. <grin>  I'm reliably informed that it's not very good at what it
does.  anyway, if you have ALSA installed then you don't need it.  Just do
something like Chris's script and you should be set.

Have you tried using the 'echo' feature to hear your own transmissions
come back with a time delay?

This isn't right.  The format of SPEAKFREE_ID is
name:e-mail.address:phone:location meaning the above line should look like
this:

setenv SPEAKFREE_ID="Chris Nestrud:ccn@uark.edu::Fayetteville, AR, USA"

This is important as the LWL server puts headers like Phone and E-mail
before the appropriate entries on the webpage.

That's understandable.. And also what I get for not reading the docs.

For those having problems, perhaps this will help. I'm using the woody
distribution of Debian linux, with an SB Live soundcard, and the emu10k1
drivers from ftp://opensource.creative.com. All i had to do was 'apt-get
install speak-freely' and edit (and soon re-edit) a script to connect to
the reflector. I've been running it as root, but since my ccn account has
access to group audio, I'd think it would work equally well when run as a
normal user.

Anyone here tried using WIndows version of Speak Freely? I cannot get
lwl.braille.uwo.ca:2074 to respond for echoes. I can get it to work with
lookback though.
