Thanks for the suggestions... but I do not have a shell account, and the
barrier on browsers is an automatic one - somehow the other end of the
wire knows I am not using a mainstream graphical browser, and disallows
access. I assume it is because those sites make their living by bombarding
their users with advertising along the edges of the screen or some
such. We may have to break the stuff up into email attachments. I think
probably the "dd" command with its "skip=" and "count=" options might be
the tool to use for that. What a pain!

Hi gang -
This is off topic, but let me try anyway! :-)
Does anyone know of a way I can share online space with another person so
that we can transfer files by FTP? I would like it to be password
protected (not public) and may need in the neighborhood of 50MB - worst
case. I was referred to two possibilities, www.idrive.com and
www.xdrive.com, but both of those sites require me to be using either
Internet Explorer or Netscape in a graphical environment, which I am not
willing to do. Checking with my ISP (a really smalltown operation) there
is no way I can extend access to my own storage space there without giving
the other person total access to my account - email and everything - and
then there is the possibility of simultaneous accessing. What I hope is
that there might be a service similar to the two I have mentioned, but one
which does not impose restrictions on the type of access packages that are
allowed.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated. And now we return you to the
previously scheduled program already in progress!
Chuck.

If you have a shell account somewhere you can probably create a publically
accessible sub-dir via anonymous ftp. This is often the case on shell
systems--admittedly rarer and rarer.
Also, if everyone is on the same server, using /tmp is often available as
well, though this won't meet the password requirment.

Hi Chuck,
Just send me the preferred user-ids and full names and callsigns if
any of the users and I'll create accounts on speakup.octothorp.org. It
is connected to a DSL with 640k down and 272k up. Reverse that because
you're at the other end. There is a 16MB HDD with no quotas.
Calling the number at the top of this message will probably
get a faster response
HTH.
