anyone got Speakup to patch on Mandrake 7,.0? When I run patch it can't
find a heck of a lot of directories it looks like it is looking for
linux2.3 kernel though so I am not sure if I am using the wrong patch or
if the wrong patch got put in with .08.
I had the .7 working fine with red hat 5.2 but this is just giving wierd
errors.

Did you grab the actual kernel tarball? The RPM provided with later
versions of redhat and mandrake is incomplete.

You'll have to go and download the kernel source tree that's on
kernel.org. Sometimes the people that make their own distros decide to
make patches to the source tree and speakup doesn't allways like this.
Go and get the generic source tree and you shouldn't have any problems.

Hi:
The same patch is used to patch 2.2 and 2.3 kernels.

Hi:
Well, it never asked this of me so I suspect you either have an incomplete
kernel tree as summised earlier or you are doing it wrong somehow. The
only thing that should fail is a MIPS hunk which shouldn't matter.
Geoff.

Well it is highly possible I have an incomplete a lot of things. I realy
hate the fact I can't find a way to do mandrake in text mode like I can
redhat. I am just playing with mandrake cause redhat 6.2 is supposed to
release next week or so I will ditch this crap when it does.

I rather hesitate to suggest this, because a 56K modem is an awful way to
go after a 650Mb file. But, if you have a better net connection--or a way
of leaving an ftp connection working in the background grinding away--you
can download the ISO image for RH 6.2 and burn your own CDR. That's what
I've been doing for some time now. It works.

Hi Ken,
You may be in a hole, but apparantely I'm in the future!
I just noticed the date it said I sent that message and it's still 2
monthes off.
Now I have to wonder how long my date has been out of whack, and if it is a
result of day light savings. The only good thing is I remember checking it
March 1st. Now is it hardware, software, or kid related as this is a
Windows system I am on and the kids play some games on here. What a pain.

Odd, it won't patch properly on 2.3.99 pre3. I'd like to try this devel
kernel, it's got some features I'd like to try.
It patches, hunks 1 and 3 succeed, but 2 and 4 fail.
