I was wondering if there is a way to change the volume so when I boot up
the slackware it wouldn't come up on my doubletalk at 5. It's a bit on the
low side. I just started using linux so I don't know that much but if I can
do it with an editor I'd appreciate knowing.

The simplest thing to do is turn up the physical volume on the card or
speaker depending on what type of speaker you are using. The other
thing you can do is set it with load speak in your boot up sequence
which depends on which distribution you are using.

Hi:
You could use loadspk to load a file containing the settings you like. You
could place the commands to do this somewhere in the rc section, depending
on how your distribution does all that. This won't come into effect till
partway through boot-up of course. If you want it that way from the start,
you'd have to hack speakup and recompile.
Geoff.
