Hi all. I remember cut and paste in Speakup being talked about before.
What are the asociated keystrokes? Where could I get some info on the cut
and paste functionality available in Speakup? Thanks!

Use the key to the right of the numlock. press it once at the beginning of
the section of text and again at the end of the text. it doesn't cut, but
coppies

Hi Debra. So copy is the numpad slash, and I would think paste is numpad *?

keypad slash key. You should hear the word 'Mark' spoken. Move the

I want to thank Doug for explaining the Speakup cut and

Igor, the commands for cut and paste are:
Mark: second key on top row of keypad.
cut- second key on top row of keypad.
paste: ins-second key on top row of keypad.
It works great!

Hi Rob:
CVS is the "Concurrent version system". It is used by developers of
open-source software to track there software. A developer "Checks Out" a
piece of software from CVS, Makes his changes, and checks it in again. The
CVS will update all files on the server that the developer changed. It's a
really cool system and It helps the developers stay current on the latest
modifications to the code.

Hi Everyone,
First off, thanks Alex for the answer on CVS. That is a very
cool way of doing things indeed. The more I read, the more I find
that Linux as a whole is a real breath of fresh air with it's choice
of distributions for everyone from the command line junkie to a person
(at least a sighted person to this point) who can't get along without
their GUI.
I have come across a really good resource for the real newbie
like myself. It's a beginning Linux guide for the brand new newbie.
It compliments the Redhat installation document put together by Janina
and Bill. I will admit that this new guide is slanted towards Redhat,
but they have a lot of nice things to say about Debian and Slackware
as well. Tons of info and I've just scratched the tip of the iceberg.

Don't know if you veterans will learn much from it but like I
said it's a real wealth of info for us who are getting started on the

How do I copy a document
in lynx which is spread over
5 pages?
I put a mark on the first page.
Then I cut on the fifth page.
I only got the stuff
from the 5th page.
I want to put the text
on an internet page into
a document in emacs.
What should I do?

If you're talking about speakup's cut and paste, then that cut and
paste only works with data currently on the screen, it doesn't work
the same way as cut and paste in an editor.
What you need to do is to mark at the top of page 1, cut at the end of
page 1, paste it into wherever you want to paste it, go to page 2, and
do the same thing, all the way through page 5.
If you don't want to do it that way, and you want to paste data from
lynx into emacs, then I think the best thing to do is to have lynx
dump the page for you into a text file (there are a couple ways to do
this), and then to import that text file into emacs, and do with it
whatever you want to do with it in there. Hth.

I tested cut and paste with several lines and it works fine. I was
pasting from one nano process to another. I'll try some more disparate
programs, but there really doesn't seem to be a problem.

Naughty, naughty. You know you could just look at
defaultKeyAssignments in /usr/src/linux/Documentation/speakup.
key-pad-slash toggles mark and cut.
ins-keypad-slash pastes the marked screen memory to where you have
your reading cursor.
