Hello,
Well I have found a fix for my problem with speakup, it turned out trying to pass in the quiet=1 option to the main speakup module was causing the problem.

While this has found a way of getting speakup working for me, it raises the question, why does it break when this option is given?

I made a check of the modinfo for speakup and quiet is documented as a parameter for the speakup module.

Thank you! Your information showed me exactly where the problem was, and I
have a fix. I'll test it and post a patch to both this list and the
staging list

Thanks for the help in finding this and creating the patch, I hope it does
go in.

I guess I was just a bit surprised that something like that was only being
observed by me.
