I don't think there's much of a way to install this without sight that I
know of. I was thinking about playing with it too, but it doesn't seem
possible to install without finding someone to do it.

it would be nice if you could even SSH in to it... and install it that way.

Besides, I think you're better off with PBX In A Flash. (No crazy back
doors.) I think there's actually a way to have the PBX In A Flash do
an automated install, too. Check out:

Hi,
Trixbox can be installed easily.
Just hit enter once.
Wait a while for the cd to stop.
Then hit enter again.
Then wait a min or two, hit tab twice then hit enter.
Then wait a few seconds, enter the password for the root.
Hit tab then type the password again, then hit tab, then enter.
The os will install and then when the machine reboots take the cd out.
If you need any help feel free to e-mail me privately and I can help you out.

Modifying the kernel that Centos uses may or may not be all that hard.
Its easier in a lot of bases to ssh in to the machine your going to be
acessing than to modifying the kernel the machine runs.

Tom

No reason you can't, if you type in the right boot parametes. You can
at least telnet in to do the install that way.

Hmmm, wonder if this works on just about anything, or just specific Dell

I think once it reboots, hope it allows root on SSH, you would have to look
at your router from another machine to see what IP address it got.

You can install trixbox or pbxinaflash with a serial console,
personally I prefer pbxinaflash as it is not limited, has more options and
has a fully automatic install mode so you can put it on a box then configure
it post-install with ssh.
Regards, Kerry.

Hi guys,

If you really want a gui to configure asterisk then the suggestions made here are the way to go.... but,

If you really want to get asterisk (the engine under trixbox and pbs-in-a-flash, etc) then you can install/configure everything with speakup and your favourite editor.

If you are running Debian, there is even a set of packages to ease the installation.

One caveat: (perhaps resolved with the latest git versions of speakup, I don't know) is that with speakup reading screenfuls of text it does interfere with real-time asterisk channels. I'll have to get the newer speakup git version to see if this is resolved. But, in the meantime, ssh'ing into the machine running asterisk from another machine running speakupworks very well.

   HTH,

can't remember the kernel names but you can find them by looking in
syslinux.cfg in the isolinux folder.
I recall typing
linux console=ttyS0,38400
or similar.

Hi,
Telnet doesn't work in the Centos world.
It does in Fedora but not Centos.

No reason you can't, if you type in the right boot parametes. You can at
least telnet in to do the install that way.

o I finally threw away windows!
I just needed an excuse and the million and two errors I got while
trying to repair my soundcard drivers did it for me.
I have been using grml that I installed on my laptop for the last
week. I've learned how to use lynx, mutt, msn, and even how to check
my battery status and change the brightness of my screen.
Does ttsynth still work with speakup? I bought a license about 2 years
ago, but sadly, I lost the link to download it and the key or whatever
it came with so it looks like I'll have to buy it all over again.
Is dectalk responsive on linux?
What browsers and other such programs are people out there using with
speakup these days?
Did someone write a program to interface brltty and speakup? It would
be nice if brltty would follow the speakup curosor.
I'm sure I'll find a million more questions as time goes by.
For example, in zsh how do I change my default editor vim is driving
me nuts!

Might want to buy Voxin instead of ttsynth...voxin is only $5 iirc,
and I don't see any difference between the two except maybe packaging.

As suggested to you there is voxin which is basically the same as
ttsynth but much less.

As for your question about how to change the editor, I just tried:
update-alternatives --config editor

it then listed editors and prompted me to make a choice.
