Instant messaging & Linux

I have the Micq client, and was wondering what clients existed for the
other instant messaging services such as AIM, Yahoo, and MSN? And, would
there be a program that allows one to use all four services?

I am currently running Slackware Linux 8.0.

Ann.
Centericq is the program you are looking for.

You would want to download the CVS source code.
you would get this by going to software link I believe then centericq link. And then download.
They may have a slackware up there.
Centericq does require a few things. I don't know if these are on the slackware distro or not.
Anyway, centericq is what you need. And you would want to download the source code from the CVS.
Then you would untar this.
And goto into the main directory usually centericq and a dash then the date. And then you go into another directory named centericq I believe.
After which you would type. 
./configure
make 
make install
And then go back to your user account and type centericq and a bunch of configuration will come up.
Change what you want enter in your icq, msn, yahoo aol and irc info you want in there.
And you should be all set.
I use micq for some things. But for instant messaging all four service ccentericq works best.
Hope this helps.
Sometimes when messages come in you have to wrestle with the screen a little bit.
A way to fix this is to maybe keep the speakup cursor parked and wait for a new message to come in so you don't have to keep pushing the speakup cursor back.
But it does read really well once you get used to it.
It even is getting support for multi user chats.
Not like windows versions though. But it is nice all the same.

you want to te ./configure, make and make install as root.
At least that is the way I have always done it.
I think it requires g++ to compile. Andas I said it requires another package.
But it will clearly state what that package is if it isn't on your system.
And if  by chance you have it then you won't need it.
Or if they have a slackware version on the site you may or may not need to worry about it.
If you do need that dependency I cannot help on finding it. So hopefully you will be able to find it.
Or maybe someone else using slackware can help you.

but I hear that it is good.
