The first Q in the antiword FAQ file is about installing
antiword. After the "make install" step you must then create
"~/.antiword" and copy into that directory one or more of the
mapping files found under the directory "resources" in the
antiword directory. I just copied them all. Be sure the files
have the correct permissions and ownership and antiword works
like a charm.

Hi
Yes, I've just looked at the FAQ and there it is, right at the top. If
I'd had such a problem, I'd look in such documents before publicly
declaring a package to be broken.
Interestingly, I'm not sure what Debian has done in respect of these
mapping files. But it works, so I'll guess that's enough.

Hi Chuck. I might get around to playing with Antiword again sometime in the future don't know when. Anyone here ever hear of or use catdoc? It works nicely for extracting the ascii strings out of the word file.

If I want to pull the ascii strings out of anything, including word docs,
I just use a line like this from a bash prompt:
cat foobar.doc |strings |foobar.txt
What's so hard about that?
Cheers.
