I know, this is really old stuff by now, but I thought I should follow up
with this discussion and let you all know that I went with www.nols.com and
it is working great so far. I have a perl script they provided to update
their DNS records with my I/P address every time I bring up a PPP session.
It has been solid so far! My machine can be directly addressed by my actual
domain, holmesgrown.com.

Www.sdns.net will do this, www.granitecanyon.com will if you know how to
write dns zone files. Updates occur once a day, heard it's not too reliable
these days.

The website corresponding to 2y.net is really www.dhs.org, 2y.net just is a
domain in which subdomains are offered under. Don't know of any of these
that do secondary MX though.

Yes, it is. But I notice you have to use a "subdomain" under the dhs.org
banner. I want to use my full domain of holmesgrown.com. It looks like
nols.com may be a good bet so far at $20 per year - that doesn't sound too
bad. Though the dhs.org isn't a bad deal if you don't mind being a
subdomain.

Gets more interesting by the minute:). I already have a domain I registered
through directnic.com so wouldn't really want to reregister or have to shell
out a monthly sum just to redirect a domain. I could actually redirect
directnic each time the I/P changes but they actually update DNS values.
I'm assuming that these other dynamic IP services accept a "static" I/P that
gets redirected per our scripts or web interface or whatever.

I sent a query to the company that owns dnstogo.com but as usual with many
of these type companies, I have no response.

I downloaded from YI.

I have also written a script that checks to see if my IP address has
changed, if it has, then it calls the script to update my DNS IP.

The problem with YI is that they are currently NOT taken new users.

Another dynamic provider to check out is:
www.dhs.org
I think, or it may be .com.

Good luck.

Oh yeah, the job to check to see if my IP address has changed or not,
is
located in the cron.hourly directory, so that it runs automatically.

I am a user of yi.org, it to is a dynamic addressing site.
To update my IP address when ever it changes, I use a provided script, that
I downloaded from YI.

I have also written a script that checks to see if my IP address has
changed, if it has, then it calls the script to update my DNS IP.

The problem with YI is that they are currently NOT taken new users.

I've been following this thread concerning dynamic IP's and how to deal with
them. (formerly under subject of DSL and sendmail) I took a look at
www.dnstogo.com this morning and it looks interesting. The big problem I
see with many of these services, however, is how to furnish the service with
your new address with an automatic script. dnstogo, for example, uses a web
style interface for non windows systems and an automatic client for windows
systems. I think I will contact one of these services to see if there is a
way we could give them the address with a script of some kind or perhaps
release the source code of the windows client so it could be ported with
some hard work:).

What are the names of some other dynamic IP services we can check out? I've
heard of this dnstogo, dynip, 2y.net (couldn't resolve lookup)
