Hi Alex,
I just wanted to let you know that the cvs repository has not been
touched in a very long time; all of the speakup development is going on
in a git repository.
The url is http://linux-speakup.org/speakup.git. I also run a mirror
which is available at git://hubbs.homedns.org/speakup.git. I believe
there is at least one more mirror, but I'm not sure what the url is.
Once you have git installed, you can get speakup by using the git clone
command with one of the URLs I just mentioned.
If you have any questions about how to do this, let me know.
Thanks,
William

Hi.
thanks for the message about cvs.
is there an equivalent script to the cvs checkout script to do the same for
the git repository?
also, could you please tell me what commands i'd use in order to check the
git repository out?
i'm planning to do the checkout and patching with a cygwin environment
because the distro of linux i'm going to be running doesn't come with a
screen reader, so i'll need to replace its kernel with one that speaks.
also, i don't think the speakup main page mentions the git repository
anyware.

Is git available on cygwin? I have no idea if it is available there
since I haven't worked with it at all. Even if it is, I'm not sure this
would be possible; I haven't ever tried to do it.
Which distro are you looking at running?

well svn is available, and in fact, i'm sure git is available, as another
project i no about used to run a git repository till switching to svn and a
large number of its users run cygwin environments.
the distro i'm looking at running is based off a slax distribution, which is
actually based off slackware so in theery i see no reason why speakup can't
work with it, provided of course that I can get the patching in cygwin to
work which I don't see a reason for not working.
the distro itself though is a custom one.

As for building a linux kernel under cygwin, I have to add my doubts
here, echoing what William has said. Though if it works, that would be
a nice surprise I guess, but I doubt that it will.

Hello all,
Just wondering if anyone is reading this. My ISP switched to gmail, and I haven't been able to send mail for more than a month now. Found a wiki telling me how to add a mail router to exim4's configs, but it's only good for one account, and doesn't use /etc/exim4/passwd.client, so I'm back to Thunderbird and pasting things into the silent editor, saving, reading the saved message to see if it worked, then sending the message. As it is, clearwire is no longer accessible, so I'd advise against signing up with them Anyway, I'm just wondering if anyone is seeing me again yet. TIA,
Michael

I don't actually know regarding cygwyn and compiling a kernel, although
my gut feeling would be that you can't compile a working kernel using
cygwyn. Would it be possible to compile the kernel in one distro (eg.
GRML) and then move that kernel to another distro (eg. this custom one
mentioned in this thread)?
