mini-beep.iso question

What kernel or kernels on the kernel list accessible using the expert 
option on mini-beep.iso have speakup built into them?  If I can pick a 
correct kernel number, I think I'll actually be able to get me an 
installation.

speakup is not built-in, it is available in the speakup-modules
packages.  As I already told you, it should get automatically installed
during installation if you have enabled speakup at boot.  I've just
tested it and it does work for me.  If it doesn't for you, tell me how
you installed it because else I can't fix the bug since it works for me.

Well I installed Debian yesterday in a vm using the mini-beep.iso image.
Sadly it did not come up talking after hitting the tab key and typing 
speakup.synth=bns using my Braille lite as the speech synth.
So I installed debian using brltty with the Braille lite in Braille display 
mode until the installation was complete and I could use aptitude to install 
the speakup modules package. after that it worked fine.

speakup is not built-in, it is available in the speakup-modules

Mmm, in a vm?  What virtualization manager are you using?
(it seems to work for me, at least I'm seeing things go to the serial
port)

Yes I had it forwarding to the first serial port on my computer.
I don't have the vmware image anymore as I was making it for a friend but 
what I ended up doing was to install using the braille lite as a braille 
display with brltty and after debian was installed I used ssh to install 
the2.6.25-2 kernel and the speakup modules for it using aptitude.
After that speakup worked fine with the braille lite.

Mmm, why did you need to install 2.6.25-2?  It should have been there
already, did you really use mini-beep.iso?

Mmm, why did you need to install 2.6.25-2?  It should have been there

When I got mini-beep.iso installed, I pressed and held down the left shift 
key until the disk stopped then typed in the boot up parameters.  I didn't 
hear any extra beep telling me to key in boot up parameters either but it 
did work the first time with no problems.  Perhaps adjust stuff so even if 
the left shift key is held down the beep still happens and maybe change 
the frequency of the boot up beep so it can't be confused with normal 
speaker beeps.

That's not possible: pressing the left shift key bypasses the syslinux
configuration.

That's not simple: for now syslinux just emits ^G, which the bios
interprets as "do a beep".  Another frequency would require driving the
speaker ourself from syslinux.  How could it be confused with the normal
speaker beeps anyway?  Some machines do beep already at boot, but then
you'll just get a second one, I don't see how that can be confusing.

Hi,

I've successfully installed mini-beep.iso with no problems at all.  On 
the system I used, the computer beeps twice before boot.  The beep from 
the mini-beep.iso sounds different than the standard ^G to me.  I hear a 
total of three beeps, two on boot and one when the CD loads, but I have 
no problem telling that the final beep is different and that the CD is 
booted.  It would be nice not to press Tab first, but that's minor.  I 
had problems with my Doubletalk LT and Speakup timing out, but that's a 
different discussion.  I really don't see how the beep could be 
confusing as it sounds completely different to me, but I suppose that 
could be dependent on each machine.
