Hi All,

Thanks to John for the command to stop the gdm from starting.

I have it booting to the text login now.

However, I now get the following error message when I login.

hdb: request sence failure: status-0x51Driveready seekComplete
hdb request sence failure aborting command error -0x04

The system is not dual boot and there is no other operating system.

Sorry for all the questions but would really like to start using debian.

Thanks

Keith

Hi.

That looks like an error from your IDE controoler. Something is not
right with your second hard disk. You might want to google the error to see
what it means and what to do to fix it.

Hi Kenny

Only one hd in the machine, the one containing debian.

Hi.

In that case, I would guess your hd is not jumpered correctly.
That message says the hd is configured as the slave on the primary controoler.

It might be as simple as changing the jumper on the drive. You will need to have someone famailiar with
hardware installation to look at it if you can't.
