Hi Mo:

I just included the config.gz as used from Slackware's bare.i
kernel. Since you have to get Speakup and patch it into the kernel source,
it won't hurt to answer the questions about Speakup. When I compiled it, I
installed support for all synths and chose no default synth, so you need to
pass this information to the kernel at boot time. However, someone
compiling a new kernel will probably want to only use support for their
synth and make it the default. Also, once you answer the questions once,
your answers are added to the .config file.

Hope this helps.

You can also get the speakup.i precompiled kernel from
ftp://ftp.slackware.com/pub/slackware/slackware-8.0/kernels/

speakup.s will work. It's for scuzzy and IDE. I do't know much slackware,
I do no that.

Hi Mo:

If the config.gz file didn't have a refference to speakup, it's anybody's
guess what the actual selections were. The kernel is what it is and the
config.gz on the disk won't affect it. Also, note that the disk (as
supplied with Slackware) doesn't have ppp support properly compiled in.

73 for now.

Hi Joseph,

Thanks, you confirmed what I thought. The strange thing is that I am using
the speakup.I boot disk provided with slakware8, but in it's config.gz I
couldn't find any reference to speakup. Like your self, this boot disk has
drivers for all synths, but the default is selected at boot time.

could it be the case that the config.gz on this disk doesn't reflect the
kernel setting?

Kind regards

Mo.

Hi all,

Does the config.gz file on the speakup.i boot disk specify the configuration
for the vmlinuz kernel on the disk? If this is the case, why is there no
reference to speakup in the config.gz file? When I patch the speakup to the
kernel tree and compile, I get asked about speakup and the synth. I assume
this is then recorded in the .config file (although I've not checked for
cert).

Regards

Mo.

How about the fact that the drive
shows up normally as
/dev/hde? I noticed that in dmesg
/dev/hda which is my firs hd
and /dev/hdb which is my internal zip drive
showed up, but that's it.

The speakup.i was configured exactly like the bare.i kernel. And bare.i
is supposed to detect the atapi cdroms. Could something else be causing
it?

Hi all,

Was the speakup.i in ftp.slackware.com/pub/slackware/slackware-current/bootdsks.144
configured with atappi cd-rom drive
support built-in?
If so, then my atapi cd drive doesn't
show up in dmesg output
and it is not accessible once logged in.
Greg
