samba issues

Hello list,
I was wondering, if anyone has had issues with samba hanging. I install it, 
and it takes 5-10 minutes to start, then it works for about two transfers 
and crashes.
I bought an external hd, and I would like to allow sftp access to it through 
the linux comp, but be able to access it in the network via samba.

Samba shouldn't crash on you like that at all and it should also not take
that long to start either.
Better take a look at your smb.conf file.

nothing is wrong with the conf file.
I know it shouldn't, was just wondering if anyone  else using lenny was 
having the issue.
if I start with smbd -D, it shows copyright and hangs, so it's not the 
script.
Nothing is in the logs after it starts suggesting why it may be hanging.
Their newest source from svn seems to have some issues; it didn't compile 
because of an error in one of their files.

Hi

I know I'm probably just stabbing in the dark but your using quite an
advanced network setup via tunnelling aren't you?  So is there a port
issue?
