How do I make Redhat 7.0 work with Speakup. I want to be able to
do the installation myself?

If possible, first of all, get Redhat 7.1 as Redhat 7.0's compiler has some
bugs due to Redhat's overhaist.
Best,
Vic

Hi,

Go to ftp://speakup.octothorp.org/pub/redhat-7.0. Download the boot
image file. The names are boot.img, for installing from CDROM or local
HDD, bootnet.img for installing from the network, and pcmcia.img used to
install from a PCMCIA card including cdrom hdd or network. Make the
floppy using the rawrite utility found in the dosutils directory of the
first installation CD. When you boot from the floppy, you'll hear a
little activity followed by a pause. In the pause, type: text
speakup_synth=dtlk
This assumes that you have a doubletalk internal. dectlk is for the
DecTalk Express, audptr is the Audapter, apolo is for the Apollo, ltlk for
both Doubletalk external synths, acntsa for the external accent, acntpc
for the internal, spkout for the Speakout. I hope I haven't left
anything out. After the floppy finishes spinning, you should hear your
synth start to talk. You should be on the language selection. Press
enter For English. Next, you'll be presented with a menu of keyboard
selections. Find the one that says something like "speakup.map". If you
got this far, the rest should be easy. If you have any questions, call or
write. Calling will usually get a faster response.

          HTH and 73.
          Bill

Well I got the ltlkb.bin disk and used rawrite and the disk works
fine and my synth actually worked. Now I am just struggling with
the way that linux partions stuff since my hard disk is already in
four partions. I am not sure what to do.

You get the speakup enabled floppy disk image appropriate to your setup
plus the iso images with speakup from ftp://speakup.octothorp.org.

The answer to your second question regarding "what to do with partitions,"
along with answers to other questions you haven't yet asked, but may soon,
having to do with other choices that the installation will force you to
make, are addressed in the online manuals you can access at:

	http://www.redhat.com/support/manuals

Notice that you have the choice of reading the manuals online or of
downloading them to your own computer.
I suggest you download them, if you can. Reading them them may be a bit
easier that way--but I don't know your local circumstances. In any case,
these pages are your friends as you get started. So are we. But, we can't
possibly answer everything you'll want to know fast enough. So, do get the
docs--or at least bookmark the website.
