For anyone who might care:
Starting with 2.6.35 the HDA driver honors the value of the SSID it gets
from your soundcard. If HDA beeps are off in the bios then you don't get a
beep control. I didn't know that if bios was set correctly the beeps from
grub and probably everything else go through your soundcard. to read more
