John, did you ever get an answer to your question about unmuting the sound
card? I'd need it too.

All,
First of all, grml has a new release candidate out. They could use people to
test accessibility. Point a vrowser to http://bit.ly/sESUaa
Second, is there a command to unmute the sound card? I mean, I know you can
do that with a mixer but I need a command to do it because if there is no
sound, I can't run the mixer.
I'm pretty sure that software speech is working on this latest grml release
but I can't confirm it because I can't get sound to work. And I think that's
because the sound card is muted.
