I have:
debian-9.3.0-amd64-netinst.iso
When I pressed
"S"
after waiting a while following booting the USB stick, I heard espeak say
"Press enter to use this sound board"
or something similar.
I pressed enter, then everything just went silent.
What happened there?

There was a bug that you might be encountering, could you please wait
for 9.4 which will get released soon? :)

You can also try alpha2 or one of the daily / weekly images from
http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer

Ah, where is the report on that? Just curious.
I can still install using my braille display. Will this bug persist in the installed system?

I don't think anybody made an actual bugreport, just mails on lists etc.

Perhaps you'll need to fix /etc/default/espeakup's ALSA_CARD, but once
fixed it should work.

Unless it's already known, it might be useful to document what was left
in /etc/default/espeakup alsa card information along with relevant
output from dmesg and uname -ar before fixing that file then documenting
the change to that file that makes the sound card work.
