All,
please take care not to hijack threads.
I am running a ttlk using the ltlk driver, and it works fine with
2.6.36. I haven't tested with .37 yet, but I do not anticipate any
issues.
Thanks,
William

So what should I try then to see if I can make my serial synth work
with 2.6.37?

Just configure 2.6.37 to include speakup and your serial synth driver
either built in or as a module and try to boot with it like you would
any kernel.

The only way I got speakup to work with the audapter when I compiled 2.6.34
several months ago was to remove the error checking in serial.c, I think it
was, regarding stealing the ports. I have a lot of problems with missing
letters when key echo is on whether I type fast or slow. I don't have the
knowledge to fix either of these problems so I guess my choice is to live
with it or use windows even more than I do already!

Hi Sandi! Well, I think it's a tie. I had a hormel beef ajuice on
tray, and Bob Even's mashed potatos, and a bowl of vegie beef soup, so I
think we'll call it even.
Did you know that there is an upgrade for the nls players as of July 20,
2010? I didn't, until I looked this afternoon. So I downloaded it,
and the upgrade only took about 30 seconds. It appears that most of the
fixes are service related things, nothing that most normal users will
recognize. No new features that I can see, just a few bug fixes.
Love you,
Gene

I did that and it did not come up talking and when I tried to echo ltlk
to the /sys/accessibility/speakup/synth file it said no such device or
something similar. I will try again and see what shows up in the syslog. I
should've checked but didn't. I may still have the entry from the first
time if my logs haven't rotated yet.

Hi all. I take it that Speakup still does not work with pci serial
ports?

Unfortunately, this is correct.
Now that we are in staging though, I am hoping that will mean others in
the kernel community will help us rework speakup's serial code so that
this will work.
