Hi,
On Friday I commented that my new copy of espeak 1.44.05 was working
normally, as indeed it was at the time. But I had not restarted my
computer since updating to that version a couple of days earlier. On
Saturday, a new kernel was available from the arch mirrors, and after
obtaining it, I then rebooted.
Guess what? My espeak is now broken too, misbehaving worse in some
applications than in others, but definitely difficult to use. I'm
switching to my doubletalk lt for the time being.
Chuck

Yeah, I'm still using espeak but downgraded to 1.44.02 and have it
blocked from any future upgrades until it gets fixed. I sure wish I
could use serial ports for my speakout but we've already been down
that road <sigh>. I can use serial ports for other things but not
with Speakup.

I can confirm eSpeak problems here. I just installed Ubuntu Maverick
beta, and it ships with eSpeak 1.44.04 currently. Punctuations,
especially commas, seem to make the pitch go crazy, and punctuation
pauses, such as for periods, seem to be of arbitrary short length or
nonexistant
