All,
speakup 3.0.4 has a pretty important bug if you are using speakupconf to
save and load your configuration. We have fixed this and released a new
version, 3.0.5, with this fix. So, in short, if you want to be able to
use speakupconf, you need to upgrade to speakup 3.0.5.
It can be obtained from the speakup web site if you are not comfortable
using git, or if you are running from git, just do a git pull to make
sure you are up to date.
Thanks,
William

Note: Debian's version 3.0.4.dfsg.1-2 already has the fix.

To: Speakup is a screen review system for Linux.
How does one determine what version they have? For example, I checked out
GIT yesterday, and re-built Speakup. The version I have has the bug fix,
but is still called 3.0.4 in the bootup messages I found using dmesg.
Either way, it sure is nice to have speakupconf working once again.

The boot messages will give you the version. Or, you can issue this
command:
cat /sys/module/speakup/parameters/version
