Hi listers,
I started a page describing support for Speakup on the various distributions
of GNU/Linux.
It isn't linked into the main site just yet. The URL is
http://linux-speakup.org/distros.html.
It's also available as the file distros.html, if you have a git clone of
the Speakup website.
I need more information, specifically about Slackware. If you use
Speakup on a recent release of Slackware, I'd be interested to know the
steps involved in making it work. I know Speakup is included on the
Slackware CDs. I used it for a number of years, but I haven't done a
Slackware install since late 2006 or so. The memory is rusty!
Info about other distributions that aren't yet listed in distros.html is
most welcome!
Regards,
-- Chris

Since you're including info on livecds, you might also want to include info
on SystemRescueCD. Information on using speakup with SystemRescueCD
can be found at:

Chris, I just came over to Arch from Slackware and have used Slackware
from clear back in 1994. Depending on what version you were using in
2006, The procedure hasn't changed much at all.
Would you like me to download the pages and add something or do you
want to do it. The main thing to get the system booted with speech is
to use the standard first CD image (#1). After the disk stops
spinning, type the following.
speakup.s speakup.synth=??????
where ?????? is the synthesizer of choice. I personally use spkout
for my speakout serial synthesizer. So far, software speech is not
supported at initial boot time.
